Mama's Got The Blues'  is a multimedia production by blues guitarist/singer/songwriter Ruth Wyand and film maker Jean Antolini.  The show features a live onstage musical score by Wyand while using film footage designed by Antolini projected on a screen behind the musician.

In this merging of film and live music Wyand and Antolini take the audience on a musical journey with a radio like experience at the show's opening then sets out exploring the Women who helped shape America's rich Blues history.

Wyand plays the songs of Women Blues Artist from the early 1900's to the present who have blazed the trail of blues, jazz and rock and roll.  The songs of Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith, Memphis Minnie, Nina Simone, Billy Holiday up to Bonnie Raitt plus a few others that have been overlooked and forgotten throughout history.

      What people are saying...

“Mama's Got the Blues is a seamless blend of visual media and live music dedicated to the evolution of America's most influential musical genre.  The show is perfectly paced and takes little time to engage the audience in the humor, sorrow, strength and resilience of the women who shared their everyday life experiences through the blues. Wyand's down-to-earth narrative, singing and guitar playing and Antolini’s use of archival footage and photographs ensure that the audience is treated to a celebration of musical history rather than an educational exercise.  At the end of the show I not only came away with an appreciation of what these women had accomplished but also an appreciation of what a versatile interpreter of the blues Ruth Wyand really is”.

“These women are spreading the news on what powerful women had to go through in the past to express themselves. If you can get on the box car of blues that Ruth & Jean have to share, don't miss the train” .
